New Horizon Yoga Advanced Functional Yoga Teacher Training–Module 1

OUR NEXT HORIZON as yoga teachers is to continue along our path of discovery, reveling in the journey, and deepening our awareness. From this place, our perspective can shift to embrace a broader understanding of how to serve others through functional yoga and conscious movement. Cultivate more effective skills in critical thinking, focused assessment, and expanded compassion as applied to anatomy, bio-mechanical movement, and yoga philosophy.

The complete RYT 300 program takes place over eight 4-day immersions, one of which is in a retreat setting, scheduled August 2018 – July 2020. Each module stands alone in topic and all are open to lifelong learners.

Healthy Joint Series: Strong, Tracking and Aligned Knees

April 28, 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm | Playoga, Colorado Springs, CO

The knees are one of the most vulnerable joints in the body, yet we ask a lot of them as we practice yoga and enjoy sports and outdoor pursuits. In this workshop, learn how to align your knees so you are not straining crucial ligaments, how to prevent wear and tear that can lead to osteoarthritis, and to address knee pain. As an added bonus, we’ll be working on the ankles and hips, as anytime you work in one joint, you’ve got to work upstream and downstream of it too!

The Art and Science of Therapeutic Adjustments

Functional Yoga as a Health Based Practice

The Functional Yoga field runs deep and broad, addressing well-being using principles from ayurveda, hatha yoga, massage, pranayama, yoga nidra, meditation and eastern thought. For a practical and applicable approach, we will focus on posture, movement and breath; and will combine corrective exercises, self-massage, experiential anatomy and self-awareness techniques to bring a global, layered and detailed understanding to movement through yoga’s lens. Intended for the yoga student seeking to move without pain, anatomy and alignment nerds, and yoga teachers and teacher trainers wanting to integrate functional yoga techniques into their teaching.
